// Complementary expertise across the process
Many areas of expertise. One industrial context.
Different applications place different demands on a process plant. While one part of a system may require a valve that provides reliable shut-off, other areas may focus on corrosion resistance, the accommodation of thermal movement or clearly defined operating sequences.

Alcatraz – Safety by DesignRijen, the NetherlandsIntegrated process safety and valve control solutionsALCATRAZ – SAFETY BY DESIGNIntegrated process safety and valve control solutions
Alcatraz, legally registered as Alcatraz Interlocks, is an international engineering and manufacturing specialist for integrated process safety, valve operation and control solutions. Under its Safety by Design approach, the company develops technologies that help industrial operators improve process reliability, support safe operating procedures and reduce the risk of human error in demanding applications.
Its capabilities extend well beyond traditional mechanical valve interlocking. The Alcatraz portfolio includes mechanical and electro-mechanical safety devices, digital and process control cabinets, valve drive technologies, remote valve operation systems, digital valve position and detection solutions, key management systems, PLC-integrated controls and IoT-enabled process oversight technologies.
A further focus is the company’s Eco-Drive range, which provides electric, pneumatic and other drive solutions for efficient valve operation. These technologies can support applications ranging from routine valve operation and maintenance to complex process sequences and safety-critical operating procedures.
Alcatraz works with EPC contractors, OEMs and end users across international markets, including chemicals and petrochemicals, oil and gas, hydrogen, biogas, carbon capture, renewable energy, FPSO and other demanding process industries. From initial engineering and integration to production, commissioning and lifecycle support, the company combines mechanical engineering, digital technologies and process-safety expertise within one approach.
Visit Alcatraz ↗Where our expertise meets
The connection between GEFA and Alcatraz is particularly strong wherever industrial valves form part of a wider process-control or safety concept. This is especially relevant in chemical and petrochemical processes as well as biogas, hydrogen and other green-energy applications, where reliable flow control increasingly needs to interact with safe operation, actuation, position monitoring and process control.
GEFA contributes expertise in industrial valves designed to control and isolate process media under demanding operating conditions. Alcatraz extends this perspective around the valve with electro-mechanical safety devices, digital control cabinets, valve position and detection technologies, Eco-Drive valve operation solutions and, where required, mechanical or electro-mechanical interlocking.
The overlap therefore goes beyond the traditional connection between a valve and an interlock. Their competencies meet wherever the valve itself, its operation, its position and its integration into the wider process need to be considered as part of one reliable and controlled system.
